Filmmaker Edurne Rubio takes us on an experiential journey through a cave along with a group of friends who have been spelunking together for 50 years. In this brilliant take on literal and symbolic darkness, we discover the archaeological and political secrets of Ojo Guareña as we move through the interior landscape of a Spain that bears witness to civilizations, sacrifice, rebellion and repression. As a visual artist, her practice shifts among different formats and contexts: performances, films and sound projects. Edurne Rubio creates situations where tension is built up between what we see and what we hear, between the present and memory, or the imagination of possible ones. With her anthropological-like work, Edurne uses interviews as her primary method of work, collecting individual stories to build a collective narrative that transcends and, in so doing, questions any linear reading of history, offering a subjective reading in continuous transformation and dependent on affections.
