Born in Peru, Mary Jiménez initially studied Architecture in Lima before pursuing film studies at the INSAS Film School in Belgium. During her career as a filmmaker, she has also taught filmmaking in Belgium, Cuba and Switzerland. As a writer and a director for more than 30 years, Mary has done work on films such as Du verbe aimer, La position du Lion Couché, Le dictionnaire selon Marcus and Héros sans visage, all of which have been selected at numerous festivals worldwide. By the Name of Tania will be her third collaboration with Bénédicte Liénard.
She studied Film Directing at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion (in Louvain- La-Neuve). Her first feature film Une part du ciel screened in the Un Certain Regard Section at Cannes, as well as at the festivals of Toronto, San Sebastian and New York. She went on to direct numerous hard-hitting documentaries, widely screened both at festivals and on television. She’s been teaching Film Directing at the IAD Belgian Film School for several years and she is this year’s artist-in-residence at UCL University (Louvain-La-Neuve). By the Name of Tania will be her third collaboration with Mary Jiménez.
