In Perseidas, cinema returns to its primal state: light, darkness and bodies in motion. In contrast to the sophistication of a certain experimental tradition, Kasik embraces a primitive poetics that places playfulness and the ephemeral at its centre. The use of celluloid does not function as a nostalgic gesture, but rather as a material that conditions perception. The director thus recovers a threefold innocence: that of the device, that of its inhabitants — a group of teenagers sharing a moment suspended in time — and that of the viewer, who is invited to a celebration where simply watching is also a way of taking part. Natalia Del Mar Kašik (b. 1997) is an Austrian/Chilean/Spanish filmmaker who works primarily with analog film, blending narrative and experimental elements. She attended the School for Independent Film in Vienna, and studied video and video installation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Developing her films through close collaboration with the subjects she portrays and foregrounding kinship, she aims to explore the possibilities of the female gaze, as well as to challenge the viewer’s expectation of it. Through this iterative
an intuitive process, her work becomes a visual exchange between observation and imagination, repetition and revelation. Her films have been screened, at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Filmfestival Max Ophüls Filmpreis, São Paulo International Short Film Festival, among others. She received the Emanuel and Sofie Fohn Scholarship in 2025.
