There are countless films that attempt to portray family figures who are close to the hearts of the filmmakers, and there are also many that depict the sea, sailors or fishing boats. Using these seemingly ordinary elements, the Galician filmmaker Adrián Canoura crafts a multifaceted and highly original film about love for a father who has devoted his life to the sea. From the vessel on which his father worked for thirty years, and through archival material, images shot by Canoura, postcards from his childhood and much more, the filmmaker gradually constructs a tangible space of intimacy in which the two converge and can reveal themselves and see one another as they truly are. Fomos ficando sós recaptures a lost time in which music and various visual formats ultimately embrace the relationship between a son and his father. (NC)
