Drawing on Olin Corporation, the company where her father worked and which was responsible for numerous environmental and public health crimes in the US, Lee Anne Schmitt unravels the threads that have woven the conservative intellectual network in the country over recent decades. Ideas largely subsidised by the Olin family itself through a foundation. In this comprehensive essay on the emergence and consolidation of conservative thought in the United States, the filmmaker weaves in her own personal story, her family relationships and her connection to the land she inhabits. She thus traces a path back and forth between political and personal aspects and exposes with great clarity the forms of oppression that run through it. (NC)
