Synopsis
In this masterclass, Jan Soldat will share his approach to documentary filmmaking, from the first meeting with his protagonists right through to filming, exploring how to convey intimacy on camera. He will reflect on power dynamics, the ethics of representation and the tension between observation, participation and the filmmaker’s perspective, offering an insight into his creative process and the ways in which he engages with others through his films.

Director biography
Jan Soldat
Jan Soldat is a German filmmaker whose extensive body of work explores human desire. His films, both naturalistic and groundbreaking, openly depict the sexual intimacies of the German fetish community. Thanks to his diverse background, Jan Soldat developed his own language based on trust with the people he portrays, who fully surrender themselves to his camera.
