DocumentaMadrid is the International Film Festival promoted by the City Council of Madrid, in collaboration with major cultural venues in the city.

DocumentaMadrid is a space of freedom, discovery, enjoyment and reflection. Filmmakers from all over the world, creators, critics, viewers, national and international films, characterized by creative freedom, and the exploration of new forms of audiovisual, meet in Madrid to stimulate creation, critical look and citizen debate.

Created in 2004, and with headquarters in Cineteca Madrid (Matadero), DocumentaMadrid collaborates with other institutions and cultural spaces in the city, such as Filmoteca Española, Casa de América, Institut Français de Madrid, Reina Sofía Museum, or Sala Equis, among others. The 17th edition will be held from May 4 to 10, 2020.

DocumentaMadrid is a space for impulse and support for film creation, which awards more than € 50,000 in prizes every year, distributed among its three competitive sections, in which films compete equally, without distinction of languages, duration, or format . The festival also develops an intense work of creating new audiences for the cinema with the programming of retrospectives and tributes of national and international authors, as well as an extensive program of parallel, training and professional activities.

Since 2004, the Festival facilitates the meeting and dialogue of the public with filmmakers from all over the world, for which it has counted in its different editions with guests such as Basilio Martín Patino, Frederick Wiseman, Luciano Emmer, Patricio Guzmán, Margarita Ledo , Helena Třeštíková, Rithy Panh, Laila Pakalnina, Ross McElwee, or Ruth Beckerman, among others.
