Film scholar and critic based in London, where she is Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at King’s College London. She writes widely about experimental, underground and women’s filmmaking, post 1960s US filmmaking, and contemporary global cinemas. She is the author of Lewd Looks: American Sexploitation Cinema in the 1960s (Minnesota, 2017), and co-editor of Taking Place: Location and the Moving Image (Minnesota, 2011) and Global Cinema Networks (Rutgers, 2019). Her latest book project on “cinemas of exhaustion” was awarded an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant in 2018. She is also at work on two small books one on Barbara Loden’s Wanda (BFI Film Classics) and another on the “theory of the prop” with John David Rhodes. Her criticism appears in Sight & Sound, Art Monthly, Cinema Scope, Another Gaze, and other publications.
