Synopsis

Is it possible to turn a piece of music into a cinematic journey? Winterreise, the first feature film by artist and filmmaker Inés García, works with a composition by Franz Schubert to explore the relationship between sound, image and story-telling. Composed in the months leading up to his death and one of his most important works, Schubert's Winterreise brought 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller together into a single work to tell the story of a wanderer's walk through the snow after suffering heartbreak in love. The texture of black and white 16 mm film becomes the vehicle for this journey through the winter of the heart. (GDP)
