Synopsis

León Siminiani returns to short films to tell the story of a group of filmmakers who in 2018 tried to document a strange and hypothetical stillness syndrome in Colombia. Fifty years later, a researcher recovers that footage and gets it ready for public exhibition. Somewhere between irony, desktop-cinema, homage, and starring the incomparable Luis Ospina, this film plays with the exhibition format as a vehicle for the film essay and the most playful of fake films, which never tries to hide the passion for film. Director biography

León Siminiani

His first feature-length essay film, MAP, won the Best European Documentary in Seville’s European Film Festival 2012 and was nominated as Best Documentary in the Spain Academy Awards (Goyas 2013). His second feature doc NOTES FOR A HEIST MOVIE premiered at “New Directors” section of the San Sebastian Int'l Film Festival 2018 and won the Feroz Critics Awards 2018 for Best Documentary of the year in Spain and was nominated for Best Documentary for the Goyas Academy Awards.

Siminiani alternates his more personal work with projects in the realm of investigative journalism. His true-crime series THE ASUNTA CASE for Netflix received the Magnolia Award at Shanghai International Film and TV Festival (2018). In 2019 he directed THE ALCASSER MURDERS also for Netflix. This project was one of the most controversial and critically acclaimed doc series in recent years in Spain. It was the most-watched documentary on Netflix in Spain last year.

His new project, THE STILLNESS SYNDROME, is the result of the collaboration with Colombian filmmaker and producer Jorge Caballero and it marks the return of Siminiani to the essay film.
