In 2013, Susana Nobre released Vida activa, a film documenting the three years she worked at an employment office set up by Portugal to help the long-term unemployed find a job. No taxi do Jack begins in that same office, with the filmmaker placing the camera in front of Jack (Joaquim's nickname), a sort of Portuguese Elvis with a past in the United States, who is approaching the last role in a life full of portrayals: retirement. With her finely honed mise-en-scene work, Nobre films the ever-elegant Jack as he looks back on his memories and the pitfalls of the capitalist dream. (GDP)
