Abyssal summons up an unwholesome limbo of ominous feelings. It drags us into an oppressive and turbulent universe permeated by a climate of tension typical of a post-apocalyptic horror or science fiction film that, paradoxically, is at the same time epic and intimate. Amidst the skeletons of ships lying in a Cuban junkyard, where the line separating the living from the dead is nearly invisible, some human beings go about their work. An exemplary and powerful film about ghosts who still hold out hope in the back of their minds. (AD)
