With extensive experience in film promotion, production and programming, he was one of the founders of the Curtas Vila do Conde festival, which he directed from 1993 to 2013. He has also curated and coordinated film programs, seminars and exhibitions for various festivals and institutions. He has taught at several schools and universities in Porto. He directed the Estaleiro program, a project where film students and young filmmakers worked alongside experienced directors to produce over ten documentaries. He was the film co-programmer for Porto 2001 European Capital of Culture, which focused mainly on the Festival Odisseia das Imagens (Odyssey of Images), a project dedicated to documentary film and the inspiration for the Porto/Post/Doc Film Festival, which he currently directs.
