XV Festival Internacional de Cine Documental
Kukuaren Kanta is set amidst the beauty of a tiny village in Navarra, one attuned to the rhythm of the seasons, away from any sense of urgency and waiting for the end of the world. The shooting of a community film serves as a pretext for the residents of Lerga, the 'Cucos', to film themselves for posterity. Songs to the Virgin of Ujué, faith rituals, synchronized aerobic exercises, working in the fields, artisan craft-making and collaborative meal preparation, all coalesce in the present but get projected into the future, when the images will be a vestige, the memory of a life in common. Between resilience and invention, cinema builds a sense of community and belonging. (PB)
