XV Festival Internacional de Cine Documental
In the midst of the United Kingdom's third lockdown, two unemployed actors spent their days subsumed in the video game Grand Theft Auto. A virtual world inspired by a Los Angeles plunged into uncontainable chaos, where players engage in criminal behavior on a rush of adrenaline. The two actors decide to embark on an unusual adventure: to perform Hamlet in this ultra-violent digital landscape. British directors Pinny Grylls and Sam Crane give us Grand Theft Hamlet, a work as original as it is prophetic considering the fires that ravaged the city a few months ago. And in this setting, where the boundaries between the material and the intangible are blurred, perhaps only Shakespeare can save us. (JHE)
