Tolyatti Adrift

Tolyatti, once the symbol of socialist progress and pride, is now Russia's poorest city. Famous for being home to the Soviet car industry with its legendary Lada, the so-called “Russian Detroit” is today a decadent place, frozen in time and with the highest youth unemployment rate in the country. Laura Sisteró portrays the ups and downs of three teenagers who have been abandoned by the system, with a markedly local, but at the same time, profoundly universal character. Under the pretext of an automobile movement that looks to rescue the glorious past, Tolyatti Adrift deals with the broken dreams and illusions of all those who, in reality, never lived through any period of splendour.
