Synopsis

After the 1979 revolution, Iranian cinema was banned from showing any physical contact between men and women. As always, whenever absurdity puts in an appearance, the imagination is forced to rise to the occasion. Nazarbazi proposes a poetic collage of images that challenged the reign of ignorance through artistic wit; at the same time, it’s a vibrant review of three brilliant decades of the history of Iranian cinema, condensed into just 19 minutes. In her third appearance in Documenta Madrid, after Absent Wound (2018) and I Have Sinned a Rapturous Sin (2019), Maryam Tafakory confirms that she is much more than a budding talent. (SdB)
