One of Jonas Mekas' most celebrated works is itself a celebration of joy, friendship, family, travel and nature. Its long title, As I Was Moving Ahead Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty, is a perfect summary of Mekas' life and career. This film provides, in effect, a collection of intimate, happy fragments over thirty years of his continuous search for moments of beauty, however insignificant they may seem.
Jonas Mekas (1922-2019) was a Lithuanian filmmaker, writer and curator, considered the godfather of American avant-garde cinema and the definitive representative of diary filmmaking. In addition to his work in film preservation and dissemination with the creation and development of the Anthology Film Archives, films by him such as Walden (1969) and Lost Lost Lost (1976) have informed the path of more and more filmmakers around the world.
