Synopsis

In his brief but significant career, the British filmmaker, Morgan Quaintance, has presented himself as a free and innovative storyteller. A Human Certainty juxtaposes the garish typography of his capital texts on screen with the story of a lost love in the sad, idyllic setting of an empty beach. Among these texts, there are scattered statements and the melancholy songs of The Turbans, Jimmy Scott and Charles Dodge that mark the development of the film. This essay brings to light that there is a thread, as invisible as it is clear, of a devastating human certainty running through all the contrasting elements. (SdB)
