Mayelín works at a sanitary fumigation brigade in Havana. Each morning she goes door to door, visiting each neighbor of a conflictive district of the Capital. Her goal: finding the “enemy”, the mosquito that causes dengue fever. Each time she finds a mosquito larva, Mayelín has to hand out an economical sanction, for infringement of the sanitation normative. However, the neighbors end up hiding in their houses or fighting with her, since they have no money to pay for the sanctions. Mayelín agrees to lower fining prices and sometimes even suggests that they don’t pay them.
Nevertheless, as she arrives at the fumigation center, her boss checks her reports to make sure that everything is in order. Mayelin’s frail excuses do not please her superior, who reminds her that the lack of compliance of the norms may lead to serious problems in the country’s public health.
At the same time, Mayelín tries to instruct and lead a group of fumigators that she herself supervises. While she strives to execute her responsibilities, she discovers that two of the employees have been falsifying their work hours behind her back.
The stress finally gets to Mayelín, to an extent where she is willing to do what it takes to assert her authority wherever necessary.
