Be Kind, Remind is a workshop designed for children aged 6 to 8 and 9 to 12. The workshop will be led by filmmaker Camila de Lucas and film critic Javier Rodríguez, who will explore archiving as a creative tool through play and experimentation. Participants will work with pre-existing images, exploring how audiovisual recycling can be transformed into a novel form of expression and narration.
The workshop will take a practical and playful learning approach, where participants will acquire basic notions of archival image manipulation, including editing, remixing, and artistic expression to lend the images with new meaning. Participants will also gain insight into how filmmakers utilize archive film to create their own narratives and, in the end, will craft together their own film by manipulating images with a variety of materials.
As part of the Documenta Madrid activities, the workshop aims to engage children using archival images, transforming them into accessible, enjoyable, and relatable tools for expression.
Javier Rodríguez (Burela, 1996) views cinema as a means of expression and social transformation. His work focuses on genre cinema, underground cinema, and the impact of performativity on emancipatory processes and social movements. As a film critic and curator, he is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Film Criticism at the ECAM. His interest in programming and research has led him to explore ways of democratizing cinema, with the aim of broadening its reach and including more diverse and pluralistic audiences. From this perspective, he develops projects that combine film analysis with pedagogy and audiovisual experimentation. His approach seeks to create accessible spaces for reflecting on and enjoying cinema and fostering novel ways of interacting between the images and their viewers.
Camila de Lucas (Madrid, 1999) studied Audiovisual Communication at UC3M, where she developed her skills in film curation at Cineteca. She later directed Madrid2020 (2021) under the guidance of Sofia Bohdanowicz and specialized in documentary filmmaking at the ECAM. At the same time, she developed Mapa Dental (2023), which was selected for Márgenes, Abycine, and won the Onion City Film Festival. During her final year of study, she took part in the Basecamp residency in Locarno, where she broadened her practice to included expanded cinema and new technologies. In 2025, her short film Un piso estupendo will premiere at Go Shorts and will make its way to the Malaga (MAFIZ) and Cannes (Marché du Film) markets.
