A green glass, a sweater and a fishing trophy are the only objects Maia inherited from her father.
With fragmented time and space, this film travels through the landscapes of the Patagonia, which blend with the shores of the Río de la Plata, where the wind carries messages from the East. Longing to learn more about her paternal ancestry, Maia travels to the West Bank, Palestine. Between the rubble of the homes demolished by the Israeli occupation and the waters of the Jordan River, she finds a sign of fate in her family name.
The Argentinian creator and teacher, Maia Gattás Vargas is currently developing her project Indagaciones atmosféricas (Atmospheric Research) in the year-long Situated Research residencies at the Medialab of Matadero Madrid. For her project, she looks to the skies and the earth, to meteorology and its representation, examining the thinkers, scientists and artists who have shaped our vision of climate at a time when we urgently need new images for understanding the climate crisis.

Paola Lagos Labbé
Ph.D in Audiovisual Communication from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She teaches and conducts research in the field of contemporary non-fiction. She has published articles in specialized academic journals such as Archivos de la Filmoteca and Comunicación y Medios. She has served on the jury of several international festivals, including the Barcelona Independent Film Festival - L'Alternativa and Ultracinema Mexico - Experimental Film and Found Footage Festival. She has also co-directed the documentary film Juan y la virgen and directed the documentary series Piélagos. Paralelos Insulares and Seis Décimos.
Maia Gattás Vargas is a visual artist, researcher and university professor. She holds a Ph.D in the Arts. She works as a postdoctoral fellow at the CITECDE-CONICET Institute and as a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Letters (UBA). She has released four short films: Taxonomía de la desmesura; Instrucciones para levantar una piedra; Temporada and Naturaleza moderna. In 2023, her first feature-length documentary Viento del este premiered at the Doc Buenos Aires Festival and its international premiere was at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, Czech Republic, where it won the Original Approach Award.
She is currently developing the research project Indagaciones atmosféricas (Atmospheric Research) at the Medialab in the Matadero, Madrid (2024-2025).
