Made in Orkney, Scotland shortly after Scottish avant-garde filmmaker Margaret Tait returned home from Rome, A Portrait of Ga is a hypnotic and deeply personal short documentary about her mother. Tait draws on her youth and homeland to examine the details of her mother's lifestyle: her daily routine, the cut of her teal-colored dress, her brisk walks, the act of opening a candy and smoking cigarettes. This abstract work in portraiture features voiceover by Tait herself, revealing her love for the place where she grew up. (CG)
