Damned child
Synopsis

How does a child know they are actually a tree? How does a tree know which child they will be reincarnated as? They say that before a tree dies, it visits its family in dreams.

A found footage cinematic tale that questions the limits of archival material. A piece created from images that document the history of Spanish colonization during 1926 and 1930 in Equatorial Guinea.
The film's nitrate emulsions are freed from their original political function, and the traces of colonial Equatorial Guinea from 1926 to 1930 are recycled with poetic justice, far from extractivist logic. Deciphering the enigma of the "other," of the absolutely different. It invites us to think of ourselves from another place, a space where everything is alive and interconnected, where nature and human beings are indivisible. A short film that reminds us that the future lies in childhood.

The film Maldito niño comes from the research project El documental institucional y el cine de aficionado coloniales: análisis y usos, financed by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, with ties to the Instituto Universitario del Cine Español of the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid. With the collaboration of Filmoteca Española and Asociación 24 Posibilidades por Segundo. A collaborative experience with teenagers and young people in particularly vulnerable situations, carried out as part of the activities organized by the Escuela Dentro Cine at the Cineteca Madrid Matadero.
