A border, an imaginary winding line first drawn in the 12th century between Galicia and Portugal: a raia. This film also has its share of blurred border lines and hybrid genres. For fifteen years, Iván Castiñeiras lived in the villages of A Mezquita and Moimenta, where he accompanied Mariana from her phase of childhood invention to her doubt-filled adolescence. Mariana grows up, transforms before our eyes: time is action, the epic of the continuous present. As progress pushes onward, the community dissolves, the region depopulates and mining threatens to tear everything down. Deuses de pedra renders tribute to those guardians of a bygone time, deities who fight back against the current as they cling on to a way of life that refuses to disappear. (PB)
