Synopsis

The artist Fernando Sánchez Castillo presents the first cut of his new documentary piece, De matadero a vivero (“From a slaughterhouse to a nursery”) that traces the one hundred years of history of the Matadero Madrid building, from its inauguration in 1924 to its current inception as a cultural institution, passing through the eras of the Civil War, the post-war and other periods of disuse. Commissioned by the Matadero's Center for Artistic Residencies as part of the centennial celebration, the project is based on historical documentation, dialogues with historians, sociologists and people with ties to this space over the course of its various eras.
