Synopsis

At the foot of Mount Aso come together the harmonizing of nature and human beings, Zen philosophy, martial arts and the traditional Japanese spirit. As the residents carry out their practice, a filmmaker uses his camera to concurrently encapsulates the now of that ceremonial present moment, which lives again with each screening.
A ritual film, with precise and elegant gestures, stitched together through surprising, syncopated editing and endowed with the magical texture and special grain of Super 8 film, to be watched with the quasi-monastic meditation that silence provides. (AD)

Jorge Suárez-Quiñones Rivas

Jorge Suárez-Quiñones Rivas (León, Spain, 1992). Filmmaker and visual artist. Graduated in Architecture (ETSAM, UPM) and Contemporary Audiovisual Creation (MasterLAV).

His audiovisual production have been subject of three solo screenings in 2019: “Jorge Suárez-Quiñones Rivas Film Anthology” and “Around the solar year: in-camera edited super-8 films by Jorge Suárez-Quiñones Rivas” (Tokyo Image Forum), and “The Films by Jorge Suárez-Quiñones and Guillermo Pozo” (CA2M Contemporary Art Museum Madrid).

International film festivals have programmed his works (IFFR Rotterdam, Fracto Experimental Film Encounter Berlin, Filmadrid, Riga Pasaules Film Festival, Documenta Madrid, Curtocircuíto, Now&After Moscow, Alcine, Márgenes), as well as contemporary art museums and cultural institutions (CA2M, Tokyo Image Forum, MUSAC Contemporary Art Museum, Spanish Pavilion “Becoming” at the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2018, CGAI Center of Image Arts, EightySix Art Institute Copenhagen, Artplay Design Center Moscow, Enfants Artspace Hamburg), being part of archives and online catalogues (IFFR Unleashed, Rencontres Internationales Paris-Berlin, MUBI’s Notebook, Filmscalpel, Márgenes, Cine Estudio Círculo Bellas Artes Madrid). 

Professor in MasterLAV (2017-now), Women Make! (2020-now) and MAca Master of Architectural Communication (ETSAM+UPM, 2018-2019).
