Synopsis

Documenta 2020’s opening film embodies many of the tendencies running through the entire program: the way fiction also defines any documentary, the potential for topicality to bubble up at any moment, the many different things cinema can be. During the shoot for The Other Side of the Wind in 1970, film giants Orson Welles and Dennis Hopper met for an alcohol-fueled two-hour conversation with predictably electrifying results: a riveting, ever-shifting discussion on civil rights, acting vs. directing, generational difference and political action, captured on silky black and white celluloid. Biografía del director

Orson Welles

Orson Welles (1915-1985) was an actor, director, screenwriter, and film producer. Famous after his controversial radio adaptation of The War of the Worlds (H. G. Wells) in 1938, in 1941 he wrote, directed and performed Citizen Kane, considered one of the best films in the history of cinema. Formal renovator, and owner of a convulsed and prolific career, he left capital works such as The Lady from Shanghai (1947), Touch of Evil (1957), or F for Fake (1973). Among his many films, he left several unfinished, such as Don Quixote, The Other Side of the Wind, recently recovered, or the material from which Hopper / Welles was born.
