Director of the Harvard Film Archive. He curates and oversees the HFA cinematheque program as well the Archive's motion picture and manuscript collections. The Archive also recently preserved Robert Flaherty's lost movie, A Night of Storytelling, rediscovered in 2013 in the Harvard Houghton Library. He has also curated programs for prestigious film festivals such as the Viennale, the Oberhausen Film Festival and Mar del Plata, as well as for the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Museum in Lisbon, where he organized the twelve-part Cinema Dialogues: Harvard at the Gulbenkian (2013-15). He also produced Soon-Mi Yoo's feature film Songs from the North, winner of a Golden Leopard at the 2014 Locarno Film Festival, among other awards at prestigious international festivals. Having earned his PhD in Film History from the University of California, Los Angeles, he is a full professor of art, film and visual studies at Harvard University, where he also teaches archival theory and practice.
