In the form of a letter to the drone-spirit Chantri, the Thai artist Korakrit Arunanondchai uses an essayistic language rooted in different expressive traditions from the East and West to tackle issues such as the use of technology for preserving the past and the need for a vision for subjectively hierarchizing the images go into making memories. Korakrit Arunanondchai
He was born in Thailand in 1986. He received his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and MFA from Columbia University, New York. Arunanondchai uses video, painting and performance to tackle subjects such as history, self-representation, and cultural dislocation. Through a pastiche of styles and medium, his work seeks to find common ground between Western and Thai cultural narratives, belief systems and artistic practices.
