FROM THE CLASSROOMS TO THE CINEMA

This year at DocumentaMadrid, we want to continue last year's fruitful collaboration with schools for providing students a place for reflecting on and enjoying non-fiction film. We will hold morning sessions designed to give children and teenagers the chance to watch documentary films. In this activity, the films included in the different sections of the festival will be shown along with another to be scheduled ex professo, in which talks and discussions will be held with directors, film curators and experts in audiovisual literacy, thus stimulating a debate with young people on how human, ethical and cultural values are transmitted through the art of filmmaking. The scheduled films will address historical, social and present-day issues and will trigger open dialogues with the students so that they can, in turn, discover new ways of approaching cinema.

We hope to make film into a way for learning, knowledge and communicating ideas, as well as a unique tool with which to stir critical discussion on the risks and advantages of being part of a society ever more defined by images. In short, to experience with awareness and creativity the audiovisual world, by learning about its foundations and enjoying its uniqueness.
