Since 1997 he has been collaborating with numerous international festivals, including the Locarno Festival and the Venice Film Festival. In 2002 he founded the Alba Infinity Festival which he directed until 2007. From 2008 to 2010, he directed the Festival dei Popoli in Florence. From 2011 to 2017, he directed Visions du Réel, in Nyon, Switzerland. He has been a member of the jury at international festivals such as Cannes (Caméra d'or, 1997), Marsiglia (FID, 2000), Paris (Cinéma du Réel, 2009), Toronto (Hot Docs, 2011), Amsterdam (IDFA, 2011), Locarno (2013).
