Little documentary-makers: Learning the technique of interviewing

Led by filmmakers Edu Cardoso and Goizeder Urtasun, this workshop offers children a short, practical hands-on experience in documentary filmmaking. Through active experimentation, we will learn about some of most characteristic elements of documentary filmmaking for expressing our own ideas about the reality around us. We will do so as a team using the interviewing technique, one of the most widely used tools in documentary filmmaking. We will practice face-to-face dialogue and interaction, facing one another (with our own classmates, strangers and even with made up characters) to investigate, discover, learn to listen and dialogue through a game about what we are most interested in exploring.

The children participating in this workshop will get to discover documentary film through interviews and will work in teams, each with a different role (reporter, interviewees, and/or sound technicians). Their creativity will be given free rein when coming up with questions, deciding on how to frame the shot and using sound and point of view. In addition, together with Edu Cardoso and Goizeder Urtasun, they will learn to recognize the importance of the audiovisual language by learning the name and size of the different types of shots.

Registration: 20 participants per group.
Duration: 90 min. (group of 6-8 year olds) and 120 min. (group of 9-12 year olds)
Price: 3.5€ per participant (general admission) and 3€ per participant (discounted admission).
Important: the workshop is meant for children who will attend on their own, with no need for the presence of a parent or a responsible adult.
