A beautiful and mature first-person film essay in diary form, in which Peter Mettler relates to the world through his camera and confronts the inner landscape of his existence as he explores the natural and familiar scenery of the swiss Alps and Canada. An exercise in narrative freedom dealing with the passage of time, one that takes us back to the events of the last few years, including the death of his mother, the need to spend time with his father before his death, and the pandemic. Where was I before I was born? How does a cloud respond if you ask how old it is? asks the filmmaker, camera in hand. From the poetic to the prosaic, we make our way through a meditative and deliberative work that defies conventional narrative, consisting of parts 1 and 6 of a seven-part film diary. (RS)
