Marta Pessoa makes use of the historical documentation of the Portuguese Colonial Exhibition of 1934 to reflect on the structures of colonization that continue to operate on racialized individuals in Portugal. Through the story of Rosinha, one of the three hundred people who were taken from Guinea to be exhibited in the Portuguese exhibition, the deep-seated underlying racism in the academic field of the so-called colonial sciences and its social and political impact up to the present day is revealed. The exhibition photographs, catalogs and advertising give way to other objects, such as the 1943 Encyclopedia of the Races of the Empire, which make evident just how much fascism was imbued in the culture of the time and how it has permeated throughout history.
