Back in 1988, Sylvester Stallone was filming Rambo 3 in the Negev desert. That film set simulated the Afghan landscape, where Rambo supposedly collaborated with the mujahideen in their fight against the Soviets. Taking this story as a starting point, Daniel Mann crafts a lucid look at the Israeli occupation of Palestine, shifting between sharp irony and a powerful reflection on the region’s past and present while pointing out the West's systematic use of it. Over the course of the film, Mann asks Stallone about his experience and reasons for filming in that enclave. He will never get an answer, just as Humanity (or a large part of it) sits in grim silence before the biggest tragedy of the last 76 years. (JHE)
