Synopsis

We accompany Soumaya, daughter of a Muslim migrant woman, as she attempts learn more about her roots. Along with Berta, her friend behind the camera and her keeper since adolescence, they embark on a journey to Algeria during Ramadan to see once and for all if it is possible to reconcile with her mother and all the religious conflicts that separate them.

El vol de la cigonya follows Soumaya as she undertakes a search for identity through her memory and takes a physical journey to Algeria in April 2022. We question and share the conflicts that Muslim women who emigrate live with and, most of all, the conflicts faced by their daughters who, like Soumaya, feel the need to discover their own identity when they do not identify with their inherited culture or with the culture around them.
