DOCUMENTAMADRID, is closing the call for entries 2018

The International Documentary Film Festival of Madrid, DOCUMENTAMADRID, is closing the call for entries for its 15th edition, to be held from May 3 to May 13.

The Cineteca Madrid Audience Award will award the best documentary feature film and short film with 5,000 and 2,500 euros, respectively.

DOCUMENTAMADRID 2018 is ending the film submissions period for its upcoming festival, to be held from May 3rd through the 13th at the Cineteca Madrid and at venues throughout the capital city.

In its 15th year, the festival has received over 1500 documentary films - 860 feature-length and 690 short films - from 106 different countries.

Most notably was the high number of submitted films produced in Germany, France, Italy, Argentina, the United States, Mexico and Russia; in addition to 319 Spanish productions and co-productions, of which 148 were features and 171 short films.

The films submitted are being evaluated by the Festival Management and Selection Committee, which is made up of Sandra Ruesga (filmmaker and curator), Guillermo G. Peydró (filmmaker and curator), Jara Yáñez (film critic and curator), Laura Gómez Vaquero (teacher and film curator), Miquel Martí Freixas (film critic and curator) and Ruth Somalo (filmmaker and curator).

The selected works will enter the competitive sections of the programming for this 15th edition, which will be announced in the coming months; and, as in previous occasions, they will show all the different aspects of the documentary genre.

For the first time this year, the Cineteca Madrid Audience Award will be accompanied by monetary awards of 7,500 euros in cash for the films most highly rated by audiences; to be divided into two prizes of 5,000 euros for the winner in the feature film category and 2,500 euros for the short film category.

Once again, the DOCUMENTAMADRID team is working to offer the best in national and international documentary filmmaking, the most interesting visions on the independent documentary scene and, as always, a meeting place to bring together filmmakers, the public and professionals.
