• The films in competition Ainhoa: Yo no soy esa, Rêve de Mousse, Impulso, Amanecer, Mikele and La Grieta will be screened for free at eight cultural centers and public spaces across the capital city.
   
• "From the classrooms to the cinema" will show documentary films to children and young people in school matinee sessions at the Cineteca.

The International Documentary Film Festival, DocumentaMadrid, promoted by the Madrid City Council, is celebrating its 15th edition by taking its programming to new audiences with the initiatives "Documenta goes local" and "From the classrooms to the cinema". 

In line with the City of Madrid's ongoing commitment to opening up and decentralizing, the festival is pushing ahead with the initiative "Documenta goes local", which be screening, free of charge, six films from the Competitive Section at cultural centers and public spaces in eight districts in Madrid.

 The films Ainhoa: Yo no soy ésa, by Carolina Astudillo; Rêve de Mousse, by Elena Molina; Impulso, by Emilio Belmonte; Amanecer, by Carmen Torres; Mikele, by Ekhiñe Etxeberria; and La Grieta, by Irene Yagüe and Alberto G. Ortiz will be shown for audiences to enjoy at the cultural centers  CDI Arganzuela (Arganzuela), Paco de Lucía Auditorium and Exhibition Center (La Latina), CC Alberto Sánchez (Puente de Vallecas), Santa Petronila (Villaverde), Eduardo Úrculo (Tetuán), Buenavista (Salamanca), Carril del Conde (Hortaleza) and Galileo (Chamberí).

Programming and timetables for "Documenta goes local".

According to festival director David Varela: "The different films include a wide range of aesthetics and deal with a variety subjects, such as the drama of home foreclosures, the search for identity, family roots and a portrait of the new revolution in flamenco".

This initiative covers a wide spectrum of filmmaking to reach a diverse public, and some cases the director will even be in attendance to present the film.

In its 15th year, DocumentaMadrid is also featuring the initiative "From the classrooms to the cinema", in which students from eleven schools will be provided a space for reflecting on and enjoying non-fiction film. These matinee sessions are designed to bring documentary film to young people between 12 and 18 years of age enrolled in Compulsory Secondary Education, "A-Level" studies and Higher Vocational Training.

The activity will put on screenings of films in the festival programming such as Últimas conversas, by Joao Moreira and Eduardo Coutinho (Brazil, 2015); Lo que dirán, by Nila Núñez (Spain, 2017) and Chante ton bac d’abord, by David André (France, 2013). A diversity of films tackling such issues as adolescence, entering adulthood, tolerance, religion, abuse, transgenderism, feelings, freedom ... in order to stir debate among young people and to pass on human, ethical and cultural values through film art and discover new perspectives on cinema. In addition, talks and discussions will be held with directors, programmers and experts in how to teach audiovisuals.

The 15th edition of DocumentaMadrid will take place from May 3rd through 13th at the venues: Cineteca Madrid, Casa de América, Spanish Film Archives, Casa del Reloj, Sala Equis; and at cultural centers in the districts of Arganzuela, La Latina, Puente de Vallecas, Tetuán, Villaverde, Salamanca, Hortaleza and Chamberí.
