Synopsis

Great contemporary epic about the history and survival of colonization, about how a community might live freely, and the cracks in the consumer system. Le fort des fous was produced by documenta14 and is presented with an ambitious three-part structure, one of the most wondrous films of our time. The first part shows the military exercises and teachings in De Gaulle's army barracks in Algeria. A series of soldiers perform exercises with unsynchronized voice-overs and texts taken from late 19th century colonial literature. In the second part, a community wanders around the Greek island of Kythera in an alternative future where everyday activities are carried out to explore how to live in harmony together. In the third, conversations between the militants and anti-system activists Heval Mazlum and Anni Paparoussou in the occupied social center of Prosfygika. A non-linear experience exploring the epistemology of displacement, while putting into practice renewed civic identities.
