The Broken Tongue of Sleep
Synopsis

What does a neighborhood dream of when it sleeps? What scenarios do those sleeping live through? What desires do they hide, what are the heavens and hells behind closed eyelids? The characters in this film tell us what happens when they give themselves over to the dream world, composing a polyphony of voices and images, of music, and one of silence as well. Unfinished fantasies, rites of passage, escapes, reunions, masks, fabulous transfigurations, joy, pain, rage. In the background, a city looking on with indifference, perhaps because it itself is also a pure dream. What comes out from this free-wheeling montage is a visual poem and an invitation to self-knowledge and creativity as sources of transformation.

OPEN SPACE

Making its debut at this edition of Documenta Madrid, the DENTRO CINE School has been tasked with shooting a film that will make its premiere on the closing day of the festival. DENTRO CINE is a project that blends cinema and psychotherapy for socially disadvantaged young people aged 16 to 23, with the two-fold purpose of training them in the practice and language of film, while also providing them tools for dialogue, self-exploration, expression, empowerment and knowledge. To make this film, the school will join forces with the renowned writer Elvira Navarro.

The DENTRO CINE School is a project led by the Cineteca Madrid and Matadero Madrid in collaboration with Sabadell Bank, the Madrid City Council’s Directorate General of Families, Children, Education and Youth, Opción 3, ASPA, the Balia Foundation and Casa Escuela Santiago Uno. The School is directed and coordinated by psychologist Violeta Pagán and filmmaker Pedro Sara (Asociación 24 posibilidades por segundo), creators of the wholly original methodology behind this project, now in its fifth edition. The Association also has support from Netflix for developing the school.
