La digitalizadora de la memoria coletiva. Colectivo Cine Polans

This session showcases the film. work of the Polans Film Collective, made up of journalist and filmmaker Carlos Aguirre, economist and photographer Jose Aguirre and engineer and urban planner Ramón Fernández Durán. Lifelong friends who share a mutual interest in film, urban planning and social movements, they decided to start the collective to raise awareness of the problems and support the residents working in the neighborhoods of Madrid during those highly conflictive years early in the Spanish transition.

Being clandestine was a crucial part of the collective since Franco's repressive regime continued to crack down on any activists engaging in social criticism. For this reason, they never put their real names to their work. The screening of these films is also done clandestinely, either in the local social centers or parishes where the recordings were made. Forty-five years after their initial release, these films are being screened again today, reviving the memory of social struggles taking place in the Madrid suburbs in the late 1970s.
