Synopsis

From dawn to nightfall, Aqueronte focuses on the faces of people being transported down the two banks of the Guadalquivir on a barge. Journeys that seem motionless, suggesting latent dramas, waiting times, and falling into a dreamlike state. Its title refers to the 'river of woe' flowing in the underworld that, according to the ancient Greeks, ferries souls to the realm of the dead. The film is a sensory reflection on the transitory nature of humans, where the river is seen as a guardian of the tragic and sublime for the wanderers, resurrecting the hypnotic nature of cinema.
