Synopsis

Like an amplified echo of John Gianvito's masterpiece Profit Motive and the Whispering Wind (2007), Jim Finn travels to public military parks and Civil War locations to reconstruct the figure of the 18th President of the United States, General Ulysses S. Grant. Shooting in 16mm, Jim Finn approaches the story as if it were a role-play game, and he manages to fit in Roberto Carlos, cop shows from the 1970s and plastic action figures to replace the documentary's voices of authority. History is always still to be written, and following Marx, the time for parody seems to be upon us. (GDP)
