Synopsis

Directed by Lawrence Abu Hamdan, filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel gives a moving monologue in a building straddling the U.S.-Canadian border. The story focuses on Hernandez v. Mesa, a court case of an unarmed Mexican youth shot dead by a U.S. Border Patrol agent in 2010. 45th Parallel uses theatrics, playfulness, and emotion to map out the complicated dimensions of what a border actually is.
