Synopsis

The Garden of Forgotten Snow is a film about artist Nilima Sheikh's art practice and her engagement with the beautiful and troubled land of Kashmir. Her work traverses many layers of art history and scholarship on Kashmir, as well as the memory of a land that is historically torn by strife. The film comes out of a long period of engagement between the artist and filmmaker Avijit Mukul Kishore.

Biography of the director

Avijit Mukul Kishore
Avijit Mukul Kishore

He studied cinematography at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and now lives in Mumbai, working in documentary and inter-disciplinary moving-image practices. He has collaborated on video-art projects with eminent visual artists from India and from other countries. His filmography as a director includes films on Indian art history. He is involved in cinema pedagogy as a lecturer, and curates film programmes for cultural institutions. His films as a director include Snapshots from a Family Album, Vertical City, To Let the World In, Electric Shadows and Nostalgia for the Future. His films as a cinematographer include Kumar Talkies, Kali Salwaar, John and Jane, Seven Islands and a Metro, Bidesia in Bambai, I am Micro and An Old Dog’s Diary.
