Description

An experimental portrait of the city of San Francisco through kaleidoscopic footage shot on its streets set to a soundtrack by the Kronos Quartet. Disturbing and playful, among the urban symphony and found footage, Maddin takes a stroll through every stratum of cinema, with veiled references both on camera and behind it: from Bullitt to Vertigo, from Chuck Norris to Chris Marker. Biography of the director

Guy Maddin
He studied economics at the University of Winnipeg, working as a bank manager, house painter, and photographic archivist before becoming a film-maker. Maddin produced his first film in 1985, and since then, his distinctive style of recreating and renovating silent film conventions and his international critical acclaim have made him one of Canada's most celebrated directors. In 2003, Maddin also expanded his career to become an author and an installation artist.

Evan Johnson
Writer and filmmaker. He studied Film and Philosophy at the University of Manitoba and worked at Winnipeg's Rug Doctor chemical bottling plant before being discovered there by Guy Maddin. He co-directed his first feature, The Forbidden Room (2015), with Maddin, and has made a handful of his own short films.

Galen Johnson
He worked for several years in the architecture industry before working as a production designer, title designer, and composer on The Forbidden Room (2015), for which he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for production design/art direction. He has since gone on to co-direct Bring me the Head of Tim Horton (2015), the experimental short film website Seances (2016), and the Vertigo remake The Green Fog (2017) all with Guy Maddin and Evan Johnson.
