An adaptation of autobiographical sections of the book The Elimination, telling his family's story before and after the Khmer Rouge entered Phnom Penh. The Pol Pot communist regime seized the Cambodian capital on 17 April 1975, when Panh was 11 years old. People were sent to work camps and all their personal belongings were confiscated. Torture and execution became an everyday occurrence for the most minor offence.
