After fleeing from Pol Pot, Rithy Panh, a 15 year-old Cambodian boy is welcomed into a refugee camp in Mairut, Thailand, in 1979. Ten years later, now a filmmaker, he returns to the camp to film the everyday life of this displaced community. He finds people affected by inactivity, insecurity and the fear of being forgotten, people who have been waiting for years in the hope of returning to Cambodia.
