1961: in an unprecedented operation, a commando from DRIL, the Iberian Revolutionary Liberation Directory (Directorio Revolucionario Ibérico de Liberación) hijacked the transatlantic cruise liner "Santa María", which sails the Venezuela – Galicia route, to call the world's attention to the dictatorships of Franco and Salazar. For thirteen days and thirteen nights, the ship's name was changed to that of "Santa Liberdade" – Saint Freedom – and it was the setting of a series of defining events in the mid-1960s.
